Choosing Your Wedding Style

You’ve waited a lifetime for this special day and finally it’s time to create the most beautiful vision of yourself on one of the happiest days of your life. But now confusion sets in as you are deciding what style direction you want to take. Selecting your wedding dress is a big decision that has more to do with just how you look on that day; it’s the ultimate expression of your personal style. The choice of your bridal gown will impact almost every other aspect of your wedding, transcending far beyond how you will look gliding down the isle. It will set the tone for the rest of the ceremony and influence other details of your perfect wedding. The style of your wedding gown also helps to determine the level of formality and affects what everyone else in the wedding party will be wearing. Every bride has a different vision of herself and what kind of dress she wants to wear on her wedding day. Whatever style you choose is a matter of personal taste. As a bride seeking to add ethnic elements to your attire, your choices are not limited. First you and your fiancé should decide whether you want a formal, semiformal or informal wedding. Then, before you select your attire, consider what elements of ethnic culture you want to incorporate within your ceremony. Next, think about country you would like For example, you might wish to try Egyptian inspired elements that combine hieroglyphics or beautifully sculptured silhouettes, designed with the Queens of Africa in mind. How about Indian accents combined with a modern silhouette. You may want to incorporate symbols of love, peace or unification by adding Adinkra symbols to your dress. Perhaps you are having a destination wedding and would like to incorporate cowrie shells that are used for decoration in Asia Pacific, South America and Africa. You can also make a beautiful fashion statement by choosing a wedding dress accented with colorful beaded patterns that reflect the culture in Southern Africa.

Monique, a six-foot tall beauty with a size 18 frame, was voluptuous with a thick waistline. The gown she chose had to drawn attention away from her waist and creates a slimming silhouette. She wanted a contemporary style wedding dress with African elements to pay homage to her father and her Ghanaian ancestry. She chooses our wedding dress style #TF016, in ivory silk shantung fabric. The dress was form-fitting with a bustier top, halter straps, straight skirt and a chapel length train that detached allowing her to move with ease throughout the ceremony. There were over 500 cowrie shells hand-painted and hand-sewn onto the top of her dress, which added ethnic accents to her over all look.
